FAQ & Answers

PERSONAL

Why did you drop out from college? I find it interesting I get asked this a lot. It’s a personal preference really more than anything else. I believe in wisdom beyond the walls of a university, investing my time, energy and resources on the pursuits and people I actually care about. You can read more about my reasons and how my life has been after here.

What is your store for exactly? Ever since I dropped out of school I’ve been practically fending for myself. Shop The Gypsy Soul is my little side-project where I sell a couple of stuff so I can earn and save for my future travels a little — DIYs, organic home made products, clothes and accessories both new and vintage, as well as travel hauls I score whenever I’m away and wandering around other countries and places. It would mean so much to me if you can support my travels and passions by purchasing anything that interest you!

PHOTOGRAPHY

What kinds of camera equipment do use? For the longest time I’ve been using my Nikon d40 which was a gift from my father right when I turned 13. It finally broke down in 2013 after six years of love and adventure. My first creative shoots were taken using a borrowed Nikon d3100 owned by my little sister. For the past year, I’ve been using my baby Six, a Canon 6d with 50mm 1.8ii lens. I also use film cameras, most of which are lomography plastic cameras which I’ve owned for many years now.

How do you edit your photographs? It seems a lot of people are curious as to how I post-process my photos and I which I can tell everybody how simple it really is for me. I color from the heart. And that means I almost never open Photoshop unless I am completely ready for it. I never force the process unless I have to meet client deadlines. Most of my personal create shoots took weeks to color — 2 weeks in waiting, only hours of actual coloring. I used Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 and because I self-learned Photoshop in the summer of 2013 whilst traveling around the US, I pretty much stuck to the basics. My favorite adjustments would always be selective color and the never-to-be-underestimated curves. Such simple yet very powerful tools. As for my film photographs, I let them be.

Are you open to collaborations? All that I learned in fashion photography, I did because I collaborated with amazing artist-friends. It’s a huge yes! But we all know it will always depend on my schedule, what the project is about and what it would involve. Shoot me an e-mail (click that little envelope on the upper righthand corner!) and let me know what sorts of creative ideas we can possibly bring to life together!

What kind of photography work do you usually do? Can I hire you as my photographer for a photoshoot? How much does it cost? I document my life, travels and take creative portraits for love but shoot fashion and food as my profession. You can definitely hire me as your photographer, yes! Send me an e-mail with all the details I need to know so we can work something out.

Every when do you travel? How do you support your travels? To me, traveling does not only mean flying or going to another country or another place. When I go on adventures around Manila, I travel. When I look through photographs from past time, I travel back in time! So I guess I do travel all the time. But if you’re talking about planned trips out of the city or my country, I do it for as long as I am able. While I’ve wholeheartedly planted my feet deep under Manila’s soil in the meantime, mostly being busy shooting and dreaming dreams, my family and I leave when all our schedules permit. My parents lovingly shoulder whatever expenses we have when we travel as a family but my personal travels are solely my own, expenses included.
